Your Music Deserves More

Hey Reader

Have you ever sat down with your instrument, ready to create something amazing, only to feel... stuck? Or frustrated because the song in your head doesn’t sound the same coming out of the instrument in your hands?

You’re not alone.

Most musicians start out winging it, trying to figure things out on their own. It feels romantic, right? The self-taught, lone genius, carving their sound out of raw passion.

But here’s the truth: winging it can only take you so far.

At some point, the frustration creeps in.

The riff doesn’t resolve the way you want. The melody feels disjointed. The lyrics don’t fit the music.

But here’s the surprise: it’s not your fault.

The gap between what you hear in your head and what you can create is normal. But bridging that gap takes more than trial and error.

Why It Matters to Take Writing Seriously

Your music deserves to be more than “good enough.” It deserves to be a reflection of your heart, your story, your voice.

Learning song structure, diving into music theory, and understanding how to craft a song aren’t just academic exercises. These are tools that let you finally express yourself the way you’ve always intended.

Think about it:

  • Song structure gives your music flow and impact—so your ideas hit exactly how you want them to.
  • Music theory helps you identify the right chords, harmonies, melodies and progressions to bring out your signature sound.
  • Mastering these skills frees you from guesswork and lets you focus on creating, not second-guessing.

Creativity Doesn’t Thrive in Isolation

But here’s the thing: you don’t have to figure this out on your own. In fact, trying to go it alone is often what keeps musicians spinning their wheels.

Creativity thrives in connection. In sharing ideas. In getting feedback, encouragement, and inspiration from others who get it.

That’s why I believe in the power of community.

If you’ve ever felt like there’s a wall between what you want to create and what actually comes out, maybe it’s time to rethink how you approach your music.

What if you stopped winging it? What if you gave yourself permission to take your songwriting seriously—and finally found the tools to make your music sound exactly the way you hear it in your head?

Your Next Step

You don’t have to tackle this alone. The SoundPaint Community for Musicians is here to help you connect with like-minded musicians, level up your skills, and rediscover why you fell in love with making music in the first place.

But more on that later.

For now, ask yourself: What’s one thing holding me back from taking my music more seriously?

Because when you decide your music matters, everything changes.

You’ve got this!

Keep creating!! Your sound and creativity are needed and absolutely worth it!

All the best,
Amy S.

What is SoundPaint?

SoundPaint is a long-time project I've been developing for the past 10 years. The dream was to build a safe community for creatives who want to explore their musical potential in a way that goes beyond traditional music education. And so in August 2021 SoundPaint Academy was created!

I deeply believe that music & songwriting flourishes when a musician is given the freedom to explore sound & creativity. This is where sound makes you laugh, cry, think, anything we humans can reach with our emotions, and express ourselves with color and light at a supersonic rate. Notes are our colors, and we use them to paint the full gamut of what we feel.

Feel free to follow me in these places...

THANK YOU TO ALL MY WONDERFUL SUBSCRIBERS!! YOU'RE THE BEST!!

HOPE YOU ALL ENJOY EXPLORING MUSIC WITH ME!

That’s exactly what happens when you sit down to write a song without understanding music theory. Music theory is a language. A powerful one. And if you’re not...
